We are waiting in ambush; all ready to go. Not a word need be said. No one needs a rehearsal or training. It is what we do. You are with us or our enemy. We don’t play favorites. Your only hope is to be able to fight us long enough that we accept you. Among our kind you are a veteran from day one. The first cut is the deepest, or at least the gateway. There is no day; there is no night. No treaty that cannot be broken or offender made friend. We exist peacefully with all around us, and can be at war with not only the heat of dis-ease, but ourselves. Peaceful coexistence among all we know is our goal. We start no fight, yet tolerate no dissension within our world. There is neither right nor wrong. Just  impulses to be somewhere else when the word comes down; the word you say? Yes the word, don’t know how to describe it any other way. One minute we are sitting quietly among friends, chatting communicating quietly at peace feeling at home; then suddenly you are moving. Moving quickly and with due diligence. Where are we going? We never ask. What will we do when we get there? What we do; put the fire out of course. Sometimes they are little fires. Other times they are rich blazes of heat that have ignited the world; boiling and burning the very air we breathe. As the others and I absorb and change and cool the forces of heat, we sometimes loose our own warmth and are carried off and gone. We can feel that loss but it only makes the rest of us that much stronger. That is the best way I describe what it is that I do.
